Foundations and Origins

Transformational Breathwork originates from the holotropic approach of Stanislav and Christina Grof, who developed this technique in the 1970s as a safe alternative to access non-ordinary states of consciousness after the prohibition of LSD.

Its foundation is enriched by:

  • Transpersonal psychology
  • Research on psychedelics
  • Shamanism and ancestral wisdom
  • Eastern meditation and spirituality
  • Emotional release therapies
  • Breath as a sacred element across cultures

The term “holotropic” comes from Greek and means “moving toward wholeness,” reflecting the purpose of this work: to reintegrate all parts of yourself.
